Boating license rules in New York

As of January 1, 2025, a safe boating certificate is required of all motorized boat operators, regardless of age.1

The official pages we read do not say: engine size covered, personal watercraft (jet skis), minimum age to operate, card and course cost, cards from other states, exemptions. Ask the agency.

The rules are set by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
