About and method

Boater Card Rules sets out boater education rules in each state. It is independent, has no link to any agency or course provider, and is not legal advice.

• Each rule comes from the state boating or wildlife agency's own page or the statute.
• Where an official page could not be read, we used a copy of the statute from a legal publisher and mark it "secondary".
• If a page does not say something, we say so. We never fill gaps from memory or course sellers.
• Where a law is phasing in, the page gives the rule in force on the date we checked, with the next step.

Corrections

Changes are checked against the agency or statute and dated in the change log. No payment is accepted to change, add or remove anything.
